NVIDIA hardware is great. Please, give us what we need to write great drivers for it!

I've gotten machines with Nvidia only graphics as in the past their drivers was the best for Linux despite being closed source. However I am now seriously considering to changing to ATI for the first time for my next machine due to their open-source drivers that is now available. This is not meant to say that ATI is better than NVIDIA but that with open source drivers I can rest assured that any problems with the driver itself would get resolved quicker than if from NVidia themselves - for example I use a laptop, so power saving modes, suspend function etc is important but have no idea how efficient they are with binary only drivers. Thanks

Janus Sandsgaard

I paid for this fancy graphic card. Now I expect drivers Open Source drivers so I can enjoy my new toy.

Bob McElrath

Sridhar M.A.

Farzad Battiwalla

I specifically bought a laptop containing a NVIDIA card in the hopes that NVIDIA's OSS support would be better. It's beginning to seem more and more like this was a bad decision. Please don't make me choose another vendor when I make my next purchase. I love NVIDIA hardware.

David Vredenburgh

I believe nVidia makes its money on the hardware -- these drivers do not good without nVidia's hardware. Therefore there should be no loss of revenue if these drivers are open sourced -- if fact I would think it would increase sales due to greater compatibility and stability.

Donovan Mikrot

Let my graphics card go!

Ari Reads

I've been buying NVIDIA cards for 4 years now, always using them in my linux boxes. I'm tired of NVIDIA propietary driver policies, and the months it takes to fix problems (black window bug). PLEASE RELEASE THE DRIVERS TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN. WE PAY FOR THE HARDWARE.

Mihai Capotă

I won't buy from NVIDIA anymore until I can fully use their products using open-source drivers.

David Nelson

Antonio Cervone

do it, please!

Nicola Jelmorini

This is a very pity that very good products as NVIDIA don't have open free Linux drivers, even if closed drivers are good. NVIDIA is the only one producer now. Cheer up!

James Doepp

NVidia is still better than ATI, but not for long, unless it releases its specs, and opens up its drivers

quibbler

think of the future...open source is here and not going away. It is just going to get bigger.

Miquel Collado

Klaus Holler

I definitely want open source drivers for my nvidia graphics cards.

W. van Engen

I have NVidia chipsets in many of my computers and am generally quite happy. The problems mentioned in the letter are issues I face regularly. Please try to open up the driver, or, if that is impossible, support the Nouveau project as far as possible.

George Koklas

Jakob Petsovits

I'm tasked with buying and administering all computers in my 5-person family, and NVidia is actively making *no profit* in here. ATI on the other hand has made its comeback again after having open-sourced their specs. It might only be a few hundred Euros, but hey, it's a few hundred Euros that could easily be made if NVidia played nice with the open source community.

George Avram

Until Nvidia (and ATI) will open up their drivers I will stick to Intel cards; my last two computers were bought with Intel cards.

We needs them open drivers!!!

Ohs Nos! Now ATI has given up all their secrets! C'mon NV, open up the drivers for Linux!

Get on with it already you snug bastards.

Well... i dont have any idea of what i'm writting.. why give especifications?? because we need it.. it's what we want to know.. because we want to make better another alternative driver.. because we want to be open and free.. im sorry of my english.. i'm from Argentina. .. this only is the suggestion of an insignificant boy of a small town in formosa.. argentina

Glen Takahashi

This NEEDS to be done.

I agree, i am a big fan of Nvidia products, which while costing more than Intel and ATi products, certainly do better in extreme conditions (Crysis). But they do not have open drivers that could have "customized" performance improvements for each program.

Hussein

yahh Please Nvidia

Anthony Oliver

Vili Nikkola

Agreed! open the drivers, ATI has done it, you can too. thank you in advance

Jared Peterson

Terry Erickson

It's very important. Nvidia always had a great product. An open-source driver would only do good for all of us. I'm sure Nvidia would benefit greatly. I believe any perceived disadvantage from releasing trade secrets will be ameliorated by an improvement in technology.

I use Nvida hardware, and I am grateful for the current Linux drivers. However, if Nvidia would open their drivers, I would become loyal to Nvida. As it is, if i found a better deal in the competition, i would go for that.

NewKirAj

If not, my next purchase will be an ATI ;)

Abbas Mohammed Khan

I already made a self promise to purchase Intel & ATI ONLY. I think you can understand why.

Phil Gomes

I very much support this initiative.

nVIDIA, you make the best cards, but it is time for you to acknowledge opensource more.

Please please nVidia. You know how well your products contend with the "other guys". Why not go that extra mile and really show your prowess with the Linux community?!

I use the blob, but I'd change in a second if I could.

I agree completely. You make fine products..have used them for years. Please consider the thousands of open-source users. Thank you

YOU CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE FOR ALLS Please, Make it

Eric Miller

I like my NVIDIA card and would like to keep using it. Open source drivers would help me do that.

Tristan Young

I prefer NVidia based graphics over ATI and Intel. It's a shame I can't get free open source drivers for Linux. At least my Acer Laptop has an Intel chipset. My next machine might have to have NVidia outside.

Ivan Vergés

Please provide an open source driver for NVidia graphics cards Regards

I've been a loyal nvidia user for years, but have always been disappointed at what I had to do to make your products work with my Linux boxes. Open Source. Open Minds

Corey Woodworth

I always buy nvidia because you guys make the best cards. But I may have to switch it up if I can get better support under linux with a competitor's card because they have open source drivers.
