Open Sourc NVidia drivers
Having used chipsets from nVidia, AMD/ATI and Intel, I beleive that nVidia is by far the best technically. However, nVidia's neutral to hostile stance on supporting Free Software is why I currently run an Intel chipset rather than an nVidia one. If nVidia were to take the forefront in support for software libre, they would quickly find themselves in my home and in my recommendations to others.

I driver liberi rendono più competitive le aziende poiché i software liberi li possono gestire al meglio !aumentando anche la richiesta delle parti di computer per utenti linux : è un'opportunità imperdibile !
why not open it?
Ever since I've seen the excellent documentation shipped with the Linux Nvidia drivers, I've been buying Nvidia hardware exclusively, but now its time to move forward, its not enough to have well-documented easily-installable drivers, Linux distributions should work out-of-the box with all the bells and whistles enabled.
Open source and nothing else. With or without you, that's your choice.
I want an open nvidia driver for Linux!

I have Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS on a dell xps laptop and im using Ubuntu GNU/Linux OS, so thats why i sign in.
I have some problems with my NVIDIA videocard. I want believe that open-source community or myself (using open specifications) helps me to solve them!
I am using Intel video cards, but my friends have problems with nVidia ones.
open-source!
I will be happy to see the full 3d support in nv drivers, that's why I ask with you NVIDIA to help open source comunity to write a beautiful driver for GNU/Linux!
Please open it! For your own sake!
w linux ;)
Свободное ПО. Всегда ЗА!
Please open drivers :)
please, the future is open... and its sucks that after any update i have to reconfigure xserver! Free!!
Yes please. Give us open drivers that are more in tune with the system.
I`m not actualy fully agreed with petition. I just want to say, that my next GPU upgrade will be with free drivers, supported by hardware developer. And only nVidia can choose wich one it will be, becose i actualy prefer nVidia GPU, but i actualy prefer my freedom, even if it cost me money.
i have a NVidia card and i use Ubuntu 7.10 on a G4 Quiksilver and a Powerbook G4 alu, so i prefer Driver OpenSource. Thanks for understanding.
ok, i want the free driver nVidia !!!!! Bye

Open documentation for nVidia hardware would certailny allow for much better out-of-the-box support of nVidia hardware on all Linux distributions. It would also allow nVidia hardware to be used under hardware architectures under which it is currently barely usable, which would certainly allow nVidia to gain customers in some large markets - e.g. embedded devices, where the x86 architecture isn't so dominant. In summary, I strongly believe the documentation release would benefit both nVidia's customers and nVidia's business (by opening it to new markets or even creating new markets previously nonexisting).
Let it be!
Nvidia & OpenSource
Please cooperate with the growing open source community. This can only help you as Linux pulls more consumers away from Microsoft.
Yes!
This is really the great idea!
It is very good idea !!!
the Linux community need an open source driver for the 3D !
we want open drivers!!!
I have a 8800GTs on linux and the performance on X it's really bad, I want to extract te power of my 8800Gts that I pay like 280dlls, but I can't because the driver it's too bad.
Alles gut.
Great going but please open up the hardware prog API's
want a open driver the get better performance.
Everything important was already said, I think :-)
I agree.
Whatever, do what you want!
Insure that NVIDIA continues to be competitive by opening up.
we can be better.
I will switch to a free System as soon as feasible and if Nvidia has no non-proprietary drivers by then there is no reason to buy another card of theirs :D
Give us your specs, and we purl the world!
NVIDIA + GNU/Linux = Real Power
pourquoi acheter du materiel si on ne peux l'utiliser avec le systeme d'exploitation désiré car les pilotes fournis sont pour Windows quelquefois aussi pour Mac mais jamais pour Linux et autres .
Do it!
I hope you can do it ... You are best company, I like what you doing, do not stop yourself, we can do it together ... And not tomorrow, we can do it now! Just help us ... And our winnings be ferst yours, and then for all peoples, who like your's products ... Thank you ...
I'd love to get better performance under slackware for my graphics!
Now I make a choice between ATi and NVidia. Lack of good drivers prompts me to buy ATi.
plz :)
agree

I am CTO for a visual effects studio that uses Ubuntu Linux on Nvidia hardware exclusively. Providing open source Nvidia drivers gives users the flexibility to flow with the rapid changes in Linux easily, as well as be able to identify bugs and issues more easily. Open source gives the user more freedom and control of their systems, and puts less pressure on Nvidia to constantly maintain patches and fixes for the ever-moving target that is the Linux kernel. Even ignoring my own personal preferences for free software, providing open source drivers is just good, sound business logic.
I work for a Hardware Site (www.maximopc.org) and I've been reviewing NVIDIA hardware since years now. We are really enthusiastic about the Linux Movement and the Open Source, I am asking NVIDIA to release open source drivers since Linux is just starting, Intel and AMD already toke the first step, now is your turn. Give the world an Open Source driver and your hardware will shine in Linux.
Open the specs, please.
getting my graphics board to work with full functionality on the latest linux development kernel still requires hacking some stuff, issue would long be fixed with an open source driver.

Why do we have to taint an open OS with closed drivers? You have nice products, make us want to choose them.
(Linux + Nvidia) = Best of the best
It's time for NVIDIA to openup their drivers and specifications.
This should be done. You needn't view this as the Open Source community trying to build on your work; rather the community will allow you to stand on it's collective shoulders.
