Microsoft has caused a lot of damage in the Software and hardware industry. The release of Microsoft Vista has shown this already, and everyone has suffered for it. Linux has picked up big time (Thanks to Vista) and now more OEMs (Dell/HP/Asus/IBM and others wallmart) are now selling hardware pre installed with Linux. Also notice that Intel is in the lead (ATM) with the Eee PC.

As soon as these drivers are open-sourced, the community can work with NVIDIA to help solve the most important problems - i.e. high memory usage problems when using GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

Portable drivers for NVIDIA graphics hardware could increase usage of this hardware. And Open Source is an appropriate model for maintainence and support the software.

NVIDIA Drivers for linux are the best i have seen. It is shamanizm to install ati drivers, for intel to work normally is almost impossible. Only thing needed is automatical altering of xorg.conf imho

I've always bought NVidia-based hardware for my systems but have recently been looking into AMD/ATI. Though current support for ATI is dismal, I've more confidence that it will improve quickly because of its open nature.
