Great idea!
Do it please.
+1000 please, open source code
I have always loved NVidia over ATI, but I need to support the open-source cause where possible. Please work with the F/OSS community to open your drivers, otherwise you'll shut yourself out of more market share as truly F/OSS drivers get better support in the community.
I fully support the comments made in the open letter. As AMD/ATI have already made great steps in their open source drivers, I can honestly say this issue could cause me to switch to ATI graphics accelerators after nearly 10 years with yours. I hope that this won't be the end of an otherwise very good releationship.
In general, I prefer nVidia cards over ATI, but I would love nVidia that much more if the drivers were made open too.
please, give the drivers sources, the community must help you
I agree.
nVidia, Linux is growing, can you see this !

pour notre avenir
Give us the opportunity to prove that linux could be better everyday
please, give the drivers sources, the community must help you
Don't be closeminded, open the source.
I have a nVidia 8500GT, and I've had several nVidia cards since GeForce 2. I am a GNU/Linux user and I would like to enjoy Compiz using 100% free software.
nVidia is my personal choice for both motherboard and video chipsets. Home, two nVidia MB's and high end vid cards, at the office, my machine utilizes an nVidia chipset and 6200 series vid card. I would love to see the open source community have the opportunity to create drivers for both with nVidia's blessing. My Linux machines out perform windows so badly it's not even a fair fight. I can only imagine how much better things could get. Microsoft has by it's own incompetence and inability to code properly held the OS community back between 8 and 9 years compared to where the hardware could take us. It's time to rectify that situation. Hopefully nVidia is willing to help.
I am a Nvidia user.
The way is Open.
Please?
Since Nvidia cards are now installed on the majority of systems having an opensource driver would be a big to help to wider Linux adoption.
Please support Nouveau
If NVIDIA will open their specifications, it will be a good competition with AMD and Intel! Today NVIDIA can not compete with them!
you
i only buy graphic cards with good and open source drivers, it's to say i've only intel graphic cards.
I wish that all drivers on mlinux be open source
Let the open source be, open the drivers. Anyone should be enable to choose what he want to use or work on.
Add my vote
+1 from me for OpenSource drivers.
Great idea!
Will be great to have community driver for Unix/Linux platforms to get a better support for 3D acceleration functionality, stable support and updates
NVidia makes the best cards out there, and opening the "blob" can help make the cards become even better supported whether an old card or the newest.
Currently, I'm considering buying an ATI for their support of open source drivers. nVidia could be an option, though, if I could get the most out of it while keeping free.
Please follow the open source power.
GUL-X de Montréal
fucking USA !
Do it!
As a Linux user and the owner of a nVidia graphics card, I fully support and agree with the open letter and would like to see a working open source driver for nVidia.
I'm working with nVidia Cards from 4 years now and I'm very happy with their excellent closed source driver. But an Open one will be ever better.
Sarebbe un vantaggio sia per NVidia che per gli utenti, non vedo un motivo per non rilasciare le specifiche.
free driver for a free os
:p
Dear NV: Please release specs to your products and provide DRM free alternatives.
Absolument d'accord avec cette lettre.
Have used nvidia chips with Linux in the past, but prefer Intel or ATI at this point. Nvidia provides a great product, but should provide open source support as well.
Configuring linux apps on nvidia is a big pain. Hardly a few ppl out there use windows anymore. Please support open source. The effort needs your backup.
Help us to develop a free driver just to complete "the offer" for those who want an alternative.. Thanks for your great proprietary driver.
yes let the nvidia drivers free
we need more support and opes source drivers
I want!!! I want!!! I want be a happy!!! Viva revolution open source comadore!!!!
Open source drivers are the best way to serve the open source community as most problems experienced can be fixed by the volunteer developers without costing development time of your engineers.
