Free the drivers to promote innovation.

Craig R

Your cards are better & your blob drivers are better than ATI but if they are Open with the linux community. I will sacrifice performance to support a company that supports me.

CC_machine

we NEED open source drivers!

Graham Bouvier

I've been using NVidia and Linux for years. Open source drivers will help keep it that way.

OpenSource Nvidia, damn it!

NVidia cards give better performance on Windows than Linux. Make driver opensource and watch the difference.

James Jones

Release sufficient information that Open Source drivers for your graphics cards can be written that have feature and speed parity with your Windows drivers, or I will switch to ATI.

Chad Smith

Please NVIDIA, help us move forward and enhance the value of your products at the same time.

Lucas B

please, help the open source community

Noveau is a brave bunch and deserve your support, there is everything to gain by supporting these guys, seriously. Doing what AMD/Intel have done is not only great PR, it means users get proper free and working dirvers for your products!

Do as you choose, but from a business perspective you can either adapt, or die (granted it will be a slow death, but still not good for the company). Adapt while you still can and maintain rockstar status. or fade away, your call.

Tom Larkin

I will use the hardware that has the best driver support. The gaming industry will soon come to linux as they'll realize that Vista and similar crap is a joke, and the best prepared vendor will win.

Wil Alvarez

I'm completely agree. I'm a GNU/Linux user and a NVIDIA customer (chipset and video) and i would love that NVIDIA give more support to our community. I hope this ideal becomes true. Congratulations to the writer of this open letter to NVIDIA... Way to go!

I have an Nvidia card in my main computer that I absolutely love, the only probelm is the driver! Let's fix that.

Joseph Garvin

Drivers for more platforms = more users buying the product.

Sam Schlegel

Come on NVIDIA. :D

D. Davis

I use NVidia video cards and Linux. It would be nice to have open source drivers for them

Gary Coulbourne

FOSS is the only reasonable option for software drivers -- nvidia is a hardware company, after all, there seems little reason not to give out the docs. Until PCs, every machine I bought even came with schematics.

Provide the info needed - or else face the issues that Microsoft are now facing in Europe and the inevitable decline!

Alfred Carter

Unless nvidiaworks witht he open source community on drivers the way ATI currently is, ati will become the default for all linux users in the way that nvidia has been up till now. I have been using nvida graphics cards for years now, but if ATI has better linux support, that's what i'll use.

Patrick Stetter

I've been a Nvidia user since my first GeForce 2 MX. Regrettably, I might make a move to ATI for my next card when their open source drivers are available. There are many users like me out there (and many I know personally). If you want to keep a significant share of the opens ource market, you're going to need to join the open source community whole-heartedly. That's my 2 cents.

Wallace Hermano

I've supported nVidia since I bought my gForce2 GTS - buying only nVidia cards approx every 18 months. Although I believe nVidia continues to make a superior product I reluctantly bought an ATI card in January of 2008... Sole reason: stable Linux drivers. nVidia - Please open your drivers.

This would be a great step forward for free software, and would help in making 100% free operating systems more desirable.

Blayne Erdelac

Please consider this, it will definitely set you apart from other manufacturers. Without question I would choose a video card that had the option of an open source driver.

I have been disappointed by the gap nVIDIA has left between their Windows and Linux drivers. I had a project where I needed a presentation displayed on a HD720p TV display and the linux drivers had horrible overscanning problems. I ended up going with XP because the windows drivers had a tool to compensate for overscan problems on the TV out port.
